Spring Day Music Explosion: 5 Cities, 5 Provinces - 1 Super Line-up

A BRIEF HISTORY LESSON

In the early 90’s there was a shift in the urban dance culture, when house music was slowly starting to dominate the dance floors. At the fore front of this shift were DJ Pepsi and DJ Mahoota. The two guys who were very instrumental starting an event trend that is synonymous with event organizers today. 'The Spring Celebrations Parties'

Celebrating youth, love, health, music and of course....Spring, the event that is known for breaking and introducing the festive season's hits is this year adding a fifth province – North West, Rustenberg - to its line-up.

Loaded with 65 of the most exciting DJs and artist, the excitement cannot be contained.

THE SHOWDOWN

Kicking off at Kyalami Racetrack on Saturday, 04 September, This year's series of gigs will also present an international DJ – critically acclaimed *Nick Holder* (yes, him of the super classic *Summer Daze* fame) for the first time.

It hits from all all sides with a heavyweight super-line-up that includes *DJ Christos*, Blackcoffee, *Vinny*, Oskido, *Fistaz Mixwel*l, Kent and *Clock*. *Cleo* lights up the stage, leading the list of performing acts such as SAMA big winners *Big Nuz*, Thebe, *Winnie Khumalo*, Alaska, *Spikiri*, L'vovo Derango and more names to be announced soon.

The Hip-Hop scene is represented by: *Teargas*, Skwatta Kamp, *Khuli Chana*, Pro, *Maggz*, Deep Level, *L-Tido* and *JR* making the circle Bigga.

DJ's representing this genre include: *T'bo Touch,* Naked, *Milkshake*, Switch, *Sizwe Dhlomo*, Voodoo and Naves.

A SPECIAL TREAT

Even more exciting news for 'abom-rapper' is that the organisers are this year introducing a Hip-Hop stage “to show growth and accommodate the huge line-up” in line with making the experience "exceptional every time".

Mahoota says Rustenberg's addition to the events line-up clearly shows that they are serious about taking the Spring Day Music Explosion to even more provinces. Polokwane, Nelspruit and Bloemfontein were added last year to huge acclaim, and thousands in these provinces got to experience what Jo'burg had been (rightfully so) raving about all along.

“This has now become the way to celebrate spring for many young South Africans dancing to the same tune,” says the organiser, DJ and member of South Africa's longest surviving music group – Trompies. "North West gets to feel what the other provinces experienced last year and more, as no one event is the same and we continue to improve on the concept annually."

DJ Pepsi adds that the addition of the Hip-Hop stage is testament to their efforts and dedication to always make this a different experience worth talking about everytime.

"Young people of all walks of life come to these events knowing that they are guaranteed a great time in a safe environment," adds the accomplished DJ.

Again Mahoota promises: “We always make sure that when you attend our event, there and there you make a commitment to return the following year, hence the growing numbers each year.

WHY THIS IS THE SHIZ!

Here, revellers get to party with the hip and happening players in the industry on the same day for a reasonable price (R100),” he says. “It’s an experience like no other,” he enthuses. The added bonus about the professionally run event is that the organisers always showcase new and lesser known names.

"We always add local DJs, artists and MCees from whatever province we are in to add that local flair," enthuses Pepsi. "There is no bigger stage to break into the youth market than this," he chuckles. "This has proved to be the first step to greater things for many."

SPRING DAY MUSIC EXPLOSION EVENT DIARY

Please note: The Joburg event has now been moved to a bigger venue - the Nasrecc Expo Centre.
Not the Kyalamin Race Track as previously mentioned.

According to Mahoota, this was done because "our agressive marketing has created massive excitement for the event". The new venue has ample parking, better traffic control and "is guaranteed to meet the magnificent time planned for revellers with additional fun activities".

2. Loch Logan, Bloemfontein (Free State) – 11 September
3. Raging Bull, Polokwane (Limpopo) – 18 September
4. City Jive, Rustenberg (North West) – 24 September
